Former College of Marin Employee Pleads Guilty to Computer Crime

The College of Marin reported that their IT Department had found that they had an unauthorized access to their computer network.   The case was referred to the NC3TF by the College of Marin Police.

During the investigation it was discovered that the suspect, who was a former I.T. Department employee, had altered the email servers to divert electronic mail (E-mails) sent from three College of Marin employees (Vice President of Student Services; Executive Director of Human Resources and Labor Relations; and, the Chief Information Officer & IT Director) to an outside email address. 

A search warrant on the I.P. address associated with changes made to the email server revealed that he I.P. Address was assigned to the former IT employee, Jeff Fleisher, at his home address.  A search warrant for the suspect’s home was obtained and served.  Computers seized from the suspects were forensically examined and evidence linking him to the intrusion and to receiving the forwarded emails.

On February 23, 2016, Fleisher pled guilty to a violation of California Penal Code Section 502 (c)(2); Unauthorized Use of a Computer System.
